A region in northern Sweden: Västerbotten is bordering the Gulf of Bothnia to the east, and Norway to the west.

Population: 
270,000

Largest cities: 
Umeå, with a population of around 130,000 and Skellefteå, with a population of around 75,000 are the two largest cities.

Language: 
Swedish is the official language but most people also speak English.

Food:
Västerbotten is known for its cheese, also called Västerbottensost. Other traditional foods are venison and cloudberries.

Culture:
The region has a rich cultural heritage, with many museums, festivals, and cultural events throughout the year.

Climate: 
Västerbotten has a subarctic climate, cold and snowy winters and mild and bright summers.  

National park: 
Björnlandet National Park has a magnificient wilderness with several hiking trails. 

Nature Reserve: 
Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve is known for its rugged mountain landscape, glaciers, and rich biodiversity. It is the largest protected area in Europe.
